Adam Masterton + Helen Balding + Rosalie Deighton

ADAM MASTERTON has much going for him. His band, mostly Van Morrison Alumni, weave a delicate, vaguely rustic backdrop, similar to the one used by Morrison himself, in the early seventies. His voice has an aching but knowing catch that pitches him mid way between Kelly Jones (whose solo American shows he supported) and the young David Bowie, particularly on the centrepiece, Sarah Queen of England, a Bob Dylan-esque sense-boggler. Nothing quite matches those six minutes, but his melodies are pretty, his lyrics intriguing and the band remarkably sympathetic. In a wiser world, he’d go far.
With suport from Helen Balding.
And anyone who has heard ROSALIE DEIGHTON's potent voice and compelling songs will know that music is her life. ''It's the pure, classic singer-songwriter sensibility that really moves me,'' Her new songs represent the mature honing of her craft and the culmination of all her experience. Fans of great songwriting are in for a treat.
