The Troubadour Garret was voted Runner Up in the 2009 Alastair Sawdays Reader Awards 'Favourite Hotel or Inn' category. From 1000 listed establishments in 'Special Places to Stay' readers decided that this stylish little gem tucked away above the famous Troubadour Cafe was indeed a unique and wonderful place.

I chose The Troubadour as the setting for Kit Marchwood’s poetry readings in Speaking of Love because it was the place for poetry readings and performances in London in the 1960s. (It still is.) It was the grooviest place I knew. I loved the coffee pots on the shelves in the window. I hoped I was as trendy as the trendiest customers and, of course, I longed for a poet to fall in love with me. I gave that privilege to Iris (probably because it never happened to me … !) when Kit falls for her on the night she comes to hear him and then, until they leave London, they share his flat above The Troubadour.

Gap Year Safety Training courses are held regularly at the Troubadour. Objective Travel Safety Ltd is the market leader in the provision of safety training for the Gap Year traveller. In addition, the company provides safety training and security advice to media, aid workers and business professionals travelling overseas. In September 2002, Objective launched its acclaimed one-day Gap Year safety course and since then over 500 young travellers have set off better prepared for the safety issues they may face. The one-day Objective Gap Year Safety course is designed to teach the young traveller how to 'think safe', allowing them to recognise and thus avoid danger at the earliest opportunity. The course gives advice on environmental, legal and cultural issues, what to take, First Aid and how to cope with extreme situations such as muggings and kidnapping.
